Mercedes-Benz Top 10 Technologies for 2020 Models

Mercedes-Benz has been one of the industry leaders in safety, technology, and performance for decades. As we move into the new decade, Mercedes-Benz is still striving to be a pioneer in automotive technology. Mercedes-Benz has compiled a list of the Top 10 Technologies being introduced in 2020 models. Here at Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn, we took a close look at their Top 10 Technologies list and have provided a summary. Continue reading to see what’s in store for the technology in your 2020 Mercedes-Benz lineup!

MBUX with Interior Assistant

The Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, was introduced in 2019 models and it has been redesigned for 2020 models as an interior personal assistant. There is now a camera in the overhead console that picks up on the driver’s or passenger’s motions, allowing some functions to be controlled with simple hand gestures, like turning on the reading lights by reaching towards the rearview mirror. This programming is highly intuitive and allows for many functions to be performed automatically when triggered.

E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL

This suspension system was designed in-house by Mercedes-Benz to counteract body roll, pitch, and squat by using a hydro-pneumatic active suspension combined with new air suspension technology. Spring and damper controls located at each wheel powered by a 48-volt platform make this a truly unique suspension system allowing for maximum comfort and control.

ENERGIZING COACH

This feature is an extension of ENERGIZING COMFORT and it is based on an intelligent algorithm designed to recommend specific programs for drivers. If the driver is wearing a compatible Garmin wearable product, ENERGIZING COACH can make recommendations for driver assist programs based on the driver’s stress level or quality of sleep. The goal is to help passengers and drivers feel relaxed and remain focused during all driving situations.

Carwash Function

The Carwash Function prepares your Mercedes-Benz for a car wash. When activated, the suspension is raised to the highest possible setting, windows and sunroof are closed, rain sensors are deactivated so the windshield wipers do not come on, exterior mirrors fold in to reduce any risk of damage, climate control settings switch to re-circulation mode and the front-facing camera activates to assist the driver. All of these settings will automatically deactivate as soon as the vehicle reaches 12 mph.

Cross Traffic Control & Active Stop and Go Assist

Active Stop and Go Assist detects stop and go conditions and traffic jams then automatically provides active support to the driver up to 37 miles per hour. With the Cross-Traffic system, braking is enabled if a collision with oncoming traffic is detected while making a turn.

Exit Warning Function

For 2020 Mercedes-Benz models, vehicles equipped with Blind Spot Assist include an added Vehicle Exit Warning function, which lowers the risk of a collision with other road users after the vehicle is parked, such as passing vehicles, motorcycles, or bicycles. A warning shows in the exterior mirrors and is audibly signaled in the cabin.

Electrified V8 Biturbo Engine

Mercedes-Benz has made huge improvements to their flagship V8 engine for the GLE and GLS model ranges. This gas-powered, 8-cylinder, biturbo engine features a 48-volt onboard electrical system allowing for the fuel-saving capability of a hybrid vehicle without compromising the power. This new engine is capable of 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, and through EQ Boost, it is capable of producing an extra 184 lb-ft of torque and 21 horsepower for short periods.

New ‘35’ and ‘45’ Engine Variants

The CLA and A-Class model ranges get two new engine variants. The AMG®-enhanced 2.0L 4-cylinder engine makes 302 horsepower in the base CLA and A-Class. In the AMG® CLA 45, a new 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine has been implemented. The new engine is the world’s most powerful turbocharged four-cylinder manufactured for series production producing 382 hp and 354 lb-ft. of torque.

Fully Variable, 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive

Mercedes-Benz signature 4MATIC® all-wheel drive system was further developed and will debut in the 2020 GLE. The 4MATIC® all-wheel drive system is now fully variable and torque distribution between the front and rear axles can be adjusted from 0-100% depending on the selected driving mode for maximum handling and traction control.
