The New and Improved 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS
Mercedes-Benz has recently been announcing and releasing their 2020 models, and generating a lot of attention in doing so. One of the new model releases coming soon to Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn is the all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV. The GLS was already an award winning model, and the 2020 model (European images shown above) comes with a handful of significant upgrades. So what can we expect with the updated model year?
Redesigned Exterior & Interior
The new 2020 GLS features a more luxurious and spacious interior, more technology, a partially-electric engine, and sleeker exterior styling that will set the standard for luxury SUV’s in 2020. The majority of the design changes came in the interior of the GLS. The three-row GLS can be configured with 7-passenger bench seating or 6-passenger seating with second row captain’s chairs. Both arrangements comes with easy-entry seat movements and large door openings so your passengers can enter and exit easier than before. The new GLS also has more legroom and more cargo space than the 2019 model. The updates to the exterior styling will improve fuel efficiency and reduce cabin noise with improve aerodynamics, while the addition of new LED headlights make the GLS safer. The wheelbase was made slightly longer due to the changes in cabin size and exterior styling.
Mercedes-Benz did not leave out any convenience or comfort features in the new GLS. Features like available massaging seats, panoramic sunroof, heated seating, reclining second row seats, available passenger entertainment screens, and premium features like Nappa leather make the GLS even more luxurious than it already was. The 2020 GLS also comes with Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system that features voice command ability, smartphone integration, safety alerts, navigation, and more. If all of this was not enough to make any passenger as comfortable as possible, the GLS also comes with available 64-color LED ambient lighting. What more could you ask for in the GLS?
More Power, Efficiency & Safety Features
The new GLS also saw improvements in its performance, efficiency, safety features. The 2020 GLS 450 and the 2020 GLS 580 will receive an upgraded powertrain. The GLS 450 comes with a 362 horsepower, 6-cylinder, turbocharged engine. The GLS 580 comes with a twin-turbo, 8-cylinder engine that makes over 480 horsepower. Even with power upgrades, the fuel efficiency was improved in both models due to the addition of EQ Boost, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that ads 21 horsepower of electric assistance to the engines.
With power comes responsibility, right? The 2020 GLS comes with improvements to safety features, as well. Some standard safety features include 4MATIC® all-wheel drive, an AIRMATIC® suspension system that adapts to shifting road and cargo conditions, blind spot monitoring, and automatic braking. Available safety features and driver assists include smart steering, lane change assist, and adaptive cruise control to improve the driving experience and overall safety of the GLS (European images shown below).
